Building our Bed

For Christmas (2009) my parents and I bought "D" a lot of tools and various supplies he would need to do woodworking down the road. I mainly wanted him to build me a bed that I had found plans on a blog (http://www.knockoffwood.blogspot.com/). It was the Pottery Barn Stratton Bed knockoff.

My dad and mom came up to visit and also came to help pay for and build my bed as their Christmas present to me. :)

First, they had to put the saw horses together since I bought the brackets to create your own rather than buying actual saw horses. Here's a pic of one almost done. "A" really enjoys helping out too.

"A" didn't have enough weight to get the screws in so "D" had to help him. :)

My dad and "D" would cut all the wood in the garage and bring it inside to assemble it since it was pretty cold out in the garage even with the heater running.
After assembling 3 of these boxes (cubbies) we had to build a center support out of 2x4's as well. But Ana (from knock-off wood) had all of that in her plans and made it so easy.

After building everything we stained them English Chestnut color by Minwax (we wanted a darker wood color that wasn't too red). Finally we added the trim and stained it...then waited for it to dry.

We ended up getting to this point around Feb 9th and "D" left for Mexico on Feb 14 for his 2nd Missions Trip. This year the team went to Copala, Mexico to help out a church by buying the supplies and putting a roof on their newly constructed concrete church. So before "D" left he helped me carry the completed pieces upstairs to our bedroom to finish drying up there. And while he was gone I set it up and put the mattress on it. Finally we're off the floor!

Now all we have to do is buy baskets that will fit in there. :)
